the high-shouldered oviform ginbari vase hammered and chased on a silver foil ground rendered in seigaiha, covered in translucent and coloured enamels with a profusion of chrysanthemums and peonies raised in relief in a riot of colour, sealed mark of Kumeno Teitaro (1865-1939), silvered mounts 

18 cm., 7⅛ in. high

Kumeno Teitaro (1861-1939) was well-known for his ginbari enamels. He opened his own studio in 1882 and exhibited at many national and international exhibitions including Nuremberg 1885, Paris 1889 (where he was awarded a silver medal) and Chicago 1893. At St Louis 1904 he was awarded a ‘grand prize’ and a gold medal at Liège in 1905.
