For an intaglio with a similar composition refer to J. Boardman, D. Scarisbrick, C. Wagner and E. Zwierlein-Diehl, The Marlborough Gems formerly at Blenheim Palace, Oxfordshire, Oxford, 2009, p. 181, no. 407. According to the authors the model is of a well-known Praxitelean and neo-Attic type and they reference the possibly post-antique gem signed by Skylax and published in G. M. A. Richter, Engraved Gems of the Romans, London, 1971, no. 693, as well as those illustrated in D. Plantzos, Hellenistic Engraved Gems, Oxford 1999, nos. 432-442. Compare the present carving with a gem in the Royal Collection (inv. nos. RCIN 65162).
