This pair of hunting scenes were once in the significant sporting collection amassed by David Davies, 1st Baron of Llandinam (1880–1944). Born into a family of Welsh railway pioneers and coal company owners, Davies dedicated much of his life to the international crusade for world peace after World War I. Alongside these professional interests was his love of collecting sporting pictures, including fine examples by John Wooton, Francis Sartorius and John Nost Sartorius, the majority of which was dispersed at auction in 2008 (see Provenance).
