Description

Nebraska

Constitution of the State of Nebraska, in Force November 1, 1875. [Lincoln?: np, 1875]

8vo (238 x 160 mm). Caption-title; first page with embossed "The Library of Haverford College" stamp, toned at margins, old vertical crease. In quarter brown morocco over marbled boards, spine with brown morocco labels lettered in blue, pale peach endpapers; some light scratches to morocco.

An early printing of the text of the "Grasshopper Constitution" of 1875—named for the swarm of grasshoppers that afflicted the convention, known as Albert's swarm. This was the first ratified state constitution for Nebraska, though an earlier version had been attempted in 1870, but was rejected by the voters.
