If you dreamed of being a rock star you wanted to be Mick Jagger, an actor it was Michael Caine and if you were a photographer you wanted to be David Bailey” - John Swannell

John is one of the hardest working photographers I have known and a completely self taught focused talent. Born into a humble family he left school at 16 years old and worked his way up from doing the most menial photographic tasks on Fleet Street and in the celebrated British Vogue 5th floor studios the epicenter of the fashion world then.

There he met the great David Bailey who asked him to be his assistant which John did for four years and with Bailey’s strong support and encouragement he set up on his on and never looked back. John is elegant and sophisticated and has a great soft mannered technical virtuosity. He is steeped in art history as one can see from this I think his greatest image with conscious or unconscious echoes of Rodin and Henry Moore. Just sheer beauty.
