Description
NIKE, NIKE AIR MAX 1, SIZE 10.5
Rubber, Leather, Cotton, Synthetic
Circa 2006
In 2006, Nike partnered with Eminem to launch the Nike Charity Series—an initiative that brought together limited-edition Air Max sneakers and global philanthropy. The series featured eight unique designs spanning the Air Max lineage, from the iconic Air Max 1 (originally released in 1987 and designed by Tinker Hatfield) to the then-new Air Max 360. 64 pairs were produced in total and auctioned via eBay and select Nike retail locations, with all proceeds benefiting the Marshall Mathers Foundation and UNHCR’s ninemillion.org campaign in support of disadvantaged youth worldwide.
Offered in this lot is a 2006 Eminem x Nike Air Max 1 ‘Proof’ Sample. One of the most coveted silhouettes from the series, the pair was created in tribute to Eminem’s late friend and fellow Detroit rapper, Proof, who passed away earlier that year. Dressed in a red, white, and blue upper, the sneakers also incorporate Proof’s likeness, with his image featured on the heels and insoles of both shoes.
Exceptionally rare, this particular pair is a promo sample and features subtle variations from other known auctioned examples.
Most notably, the interior lining does not include the ‘X of 8’ numbering seen on other pairs, and the midsole lacks the hand-painted red and blue piping characteristic of other examples. While a small number of other samples are known to omit the piping, they typically feature alternate colorblocking on the upper, underscoring this pair’s unique configuration.
A rare variation from one of Nike and Eminem’s most important collaborative projects, this pair represents an iconic moment in sneaker history.
