Description
NIKE, NIKE MAG 2016, SIZE 13
Leather, Rubber, Cotton, Mesh, Plastic, Electrical Components
2015
The Nike MAG, which premiered in the 1989 sequel Back to the Future Part II, was instantly one of the most coveted—yet unavailable—shoes in history. In the film, Marty McFly time-travels to the year 2015 and famously activates his Nike MAGs with self-tying "power laces." That scene became an enduring pop culture moment, inspiring a lineage of futuristic Nike designs.
In 2011, Nike finally released 1,500 pairs of the MAG to the public via eBay auctions, with all proceeds benefiting the Michael J. Fox Foundation for Parkinson’s Research. The launch raised $10 million in just 10 days and marked one of Nike’s most celebrated philanthropic and cultural milestones.
This pair, from the highly coveted 2016 release, was limited to just 89 pairs worldwide. Unlike the 2011 edition, the 2016 Nike MAG features actual self-lacing technology, branded by Nike as "Adaptive Fit." The system automatically senses the wearer’s foot and adjusts the lacing to provide a responsive, personalized fit, bringing to life the visionary concept introduced in the 1989 film.
While both the 2011 and 2016 MAGs are prized by collectors, this particular pair stands out for its extreme rarity: it is numbered 89 of 89.
