Martin Huber, Die Uhren von A. Lange & Söhne Glashütte Sachsen, 1977, p. 178, table 53
Made in 1883, the present piece is the fourth ever recorded minute repeater produced by A. Lange & Söhne, see Martin Huber, Die Uhren von A. Lange & Söhne Glashütte Sachsen, 1977, p. 178.
Production of minute repeaters ran from 1880 through 1939. Considered the most sophisticated of the striking mechanisms, the user can tell the time without looking at the dial by operating a slide to the case band of the watch to hear it strike the time to the nearest minute.
