These attractive watercolours were previously owned by James Gallier (see Provenance), an Irish architect, formerly Gallagher, who emigrated from County Louth to New Orleans in 1834. Gallier designed a number of important buildings in Louisiana and Alabama which are today National Historic Landmarks. His works include Gallier Hall and the original St Charles Hotel.
