A hanging scroll; ink on paper, inscribed with a hokku [starting verse] for renga [linked verse] on the subject of spring; accompanied by a paper slip including provenance and attribution with inscription Higashi Honganji denmatsu Watanabe Kazan sensei hokku shukan (Transmitted by the Higashi Honganji Temple, a starting verse by Master Watanabe Kazan), and by further accompanying letters, one including a transcription of the poem in standard script and discussion
