A set of four illustrations to the Bhagavata Purana, India, Jaipur, circa 1830-1850

Four paintings from a series depicting various episodes from the Bhagavata Purana, mainly from Book 10 which recounts the birth and early exploits of Krishna, the cowherd God and ninth avatar of Vishnu. The illustrations as follows:

Folio 1: Krishna fluting under a tree

Folio 2: Krishna Leela: The gopis enacting various episodes from Krishna’s childhood

Folio 3: Bindu Sarovar (one of the five sacred lakes)

Folio 4: Krishna and gopis (4)
