Description

King William III

Document signed ("William R"),

addressed to the Commissioners of the Treasury, warrant ordering payment "unto our trusty and wellbeloved Mary Davis […] the summe of seaven hundred pounds as of Our free gift and Royall Bounty without account Imprest or other charge …", countersigned by Sidney, 1st Earl of Godolphin, and Sir Stephen Fox, 1 page, folio, Kensington Palace, 26 February 1698

The recipient of this royal pension was presumably Mary "Moll" Davis, the former actress and mistress of Charles II. Mary's daughter by the late King was by this time the Countess of Derwentwater and her husband, the composer John Paisible, was employed in the household of George of Denmark (husband of the future Queen Anne).
