Description
NIKE, Nike G.T. Hustle 2 ASW, SIZE 22
Rubber, Cotton, Synthetic
Ca. 2024
This is a pair of Nike G.T. Hustle 2 ASW shoes. These shoes are attributed to Victor Wembanyama, likely issued during his time at the 2024 All Star Weekend per Sports Investors Authentication. Both shoes feature an autograph from the 2023 first overall pick and global phenomenon, and the autographs have been certified authentic by PSA/DNA.
The 2024 NBA All Star Weekend was the first of what will likely be many in the career of Victor Wembanyama. The weekend started with the Panini Rising Stars Tournament, and the young superstar put on a show. Right from the outset, Wemby made his presence felt on the floor, scoring the first points of the game on a jumper after sizing up his defender. On the next trip down the court, he threw a pinpoint lob to a rolling Jaime Jaquez Jr. On the defensive end, the dominant presence he’s shown throughout his young career was apparent - blocking or altering shot attempts in the paint.
While it was brief, he showed off his complete game, recording 11 points on 5 of 6 shooting from the field while adding 7 rebounds, 1 assist, 1 steal, and 2 blocks. Whether he was skillfully tossing lobs or expertly blocking shots, his impact was evident throughout the game. Wemby is one of the rare examples of a player who can take over on both sides of the court.
Going Deeper - The Number 1 Pick
On May 16th, 2023, the San Antonio Spurs won the NBA Draft Lottery for the third time in franchise history, earning the right to select first and secure a franchise player that will shape the team’s success for years to come. A month later, on June 22, they selected Victor Wembanyama, a 19-year-old professional player from France with a height of 7’4'' and an 8-foot wingspan. His raw natural physical talents were noticeable at age 14, and in just a few years, Wemby would soon be projected as the #1 pick in the draft.
Wemby gained his first professional experience with Nanterre 92 at age 16, eventually signing a contract for three years with ASVEL in the EuroLeague, where his game began to rapidly develop.
After his first season, he opted out of his contract to sign with Metropolitans 92 of the LNB Pro A League, and soon caught the attention of the American media while playing two exhibition games against NBA G-League ignite, where he dominated both games scoring 37 and 36 points, respectively. With star performances, Wemby soon slid solidly onto the NBA's radar. He proceeded to dominate the league in the 2022-2023 season, winning many accolades. One of his more notable awards was his title as the youngest ever to win the League MVP.
At 7’4”, Wemby is considered the tallest in the NBA and is already being compared to the NBA’s top long-range shooters, ball handlers, shot blockers, and passers. At the time of cataloging, Wembanyama has averaged a double-double in his career with 22.5 points per game, 10.8 rebounds per game, and 3.8 assists per game. Wemby won the 2023-2024 Rookie of the Year, was named to the All-Defensive 1st Team, All-Rookie 1st Team, and led the league in blocks. He was named to the 2024 French Olympic Team as well, where he led the squad to a silver medal, as France nearly upset heavily favored Team USA.
