Henry Riversdale Grenfell (1824–1902) was a British merchant banker, educated at Harrow and Oxford, who began his career in finance before a brief stint in politics. After his brother’s death in 1861, Grenfell returned to the City of London, where he became a director of the Bank of England in 1865, serving as governor from 1881 to 1883. Grenfell also held multiple directorships and served on royal commissions but faced financial difficulties after his firm dissolved in 1892.
