Description

the first, a jewelled gold and enamel pill box, retailed by Udall & Ballou, New York, circa 1930, rectangular, all sides decorated in opaque pale blue enamel, the lid and base with outer borders in translucent dark blue enamel edged in gold, each corner of the lid further decorated with a raised dark blue enamel ornament around a baguette-shaped diamond, rose cut-diamond set push piece, the interior of the hinged double opening lid and a separate inner lid painted with a ‘chinoiserie’ landscape in enamel simulating red cinnabar lacquer, signed Udall & Ballou, further struck 14K, 5 cm., 2 in. wide;

the second, a jewelled gold and enamel pill box, Cartier New York, circa 1930,

of square form, the double opening lid decorated in taille d’épargne enamel with gold and silver flowers on a green ground and centred with a central rose-diamond band, surrounded with black enamel, the interior fitted with a second lid decorated with flowers and a butterfly, the interior fitted with a mirror, signed ‘Cartier’, further struck 14K, 3.5cm., 1 ½ in. wide
