This one-of-a-kind piece is distinguished by its deep orange hue that has the luster of burnished bronze. To create this rich color, the aluminium body was submerged in an acid bath to give it a uniformly matte finish and then each component was individually dyed — an intricate process that required a day-long takeover of Bang & Olufsen’s state-of-the-art anodizing plant. BeoSound 1’s striking design lends itself to being displayed like a modernist sculpture. And thanks to its minimal profile and built-in power source, BeoSound 1 is easily transported between rooms and outdoors. Moreover, every detail of the speaker’s form is in service of providing exceptionally nuanced sound performance: the conical body hovers above the ground, allowing bass notes to emanate from below; the opening toward the top houses an acoustic lens that produces remarkably even, 360-degree sound distribution. The speaker is controlled by a discreet panel located on the crown that features a built-in sensor to instantly adjust the interface based on the direction from which one approaches it. This innovative controller is incredibly intuitive — one simply turns the wheel to adjust the volume or swipes and taps its touch-sensitive surface to skip tracks, pause or play.
