Blue Barite

Often displaying an off-white or nearly colorless appearance, barite (or baryte) is a dense, barium-based mineral whose name comes from the Greek word for heavy. Rarely, inclusions and impurities result in brilliant transparent hues, such as the calming light blue evidenced by the beautiful specimen offered here.
