In 2005, Nike partnered with hip-hop group De La Soul to design both a Dunk High and Dunk Low silhouette. The Nike SB Dunk High ‘De La Soul’ was released featuring an eclectic blend of colors and materials commemorating the band’s first album ‘3 Feet High and Rising’.
The pair features a Baroque brown leather based upper, Altitude green Swoosh, graphics inspired by the ‘3 Feet High and Rising’ album cover. The band has signed this pair throughout the green midsoles and the lot is accompanied by a letter from James Spence Authentication in regards to the signatures.
The Nike SB Dunk made its formal debut in 2002 when Nike officially reappropriated the famed Dunk basketball sneaker originally designed in the 1980s with upgrades suited for the skateboarding community. The man behind it, former Nike executive Sandy Bodecker, is credited with building one of Nike’s most beloved subdivisions in the early 2000s with the Nike SB line.
What sets Nike SB apart from other competitive brands is the unbridled creativity, collaborators, materials, and whimsical highly thematic designs that define a generation of sneakerheads. Nike has explored hundreds of concepts – often with a sense of humor – through its Nike Dunks. Taking inspiration everywhere from beer bottles and horror films to jewelry and significant cities, Dunks represent some of the most beloved and creative models for the brand.
