Nike Air Force 1 SPRM I/O 08 'Video Music Box' Sample | Size 12.5

Video Music Box launched on WNYC-TV in New York City in 1983 as the first ever Hip Hop music video TV show. Created by "Uncle" Ralph McDaniels and Lionel "Vid Kid" Martin who served as the series' hosts, Video Music Box preceded Yo! MTV Raps by five years and numerous artists from Hip Hop’s ‘golden age’ made their debuts on the show. The show's influence on the music industry, and as a documentary record of Hip Hop, fashion, and the history of New York city, cannot be understated.

The Nike Air Force 1 ‘Video Music Box’ was designed by DJ Clark Kent to celebrate the 25th anniversary of the program. Dressed in an unpresuming black leather upper with reflective 3M finishing on the rear panels, this pair has a silver Swoosh as well as silver text on the tongue tags. 

Paying homage to the creators of the show, the unique insoles feature a tribute to Uncle Ralph McDaniels and his influence on the industry. As the sneaker was commemorative of the 25th Anniversary, only 25 pairs were made worldwide. A Video Music Box graphic is featured on the heel tab of the left shoe, and a "25" on the right shoe. 

The Air Force 1, arguably Nike’s most iconic sneaker, is in many regards, the first of its kind. Previously realized in running shoes, the introduction of Nike’s ‘Air’ technology in the midsole was a revolutionary concept for basketball sneakers. Tasked with bringing the concept to life, designer Bruce Kilgore and an aerospace engineer brought the project to fruition with a hiking boot inspired, ankle strapped, high top. Kilgore’s first basketball sneaker, the Air Force 1 was brought to market in 1982.
