"THE HOMAGE VASE", An engraved two-handle ovoid vase celebrating Queen Mary, 1937
engraved with the monogram MR within a ribbon tied wreath cartouche between drapery swags suspended from a crown, the handles engraved with national flowers, the reverse inscribed HOMAGE above an extensive inscription, engraved mark 13 of 36
height: 14.5cm; diameter: 9cm
Inscribed to the reverse "HOMAGE/QUEEN MARY OF ENGLAND/BORN MAY 26TH 1867/TO WHOM THE NATION/OWES A DEBT OF/GRATITUDE GREATER/THAN A SINGLE/GENERATION/CAN UNDERSTAND/OR LATER ONES/REPAY".
The design for the Homage vase is recorded in the Archives of Thomas Goode in the Volume deditaed to the commemorative wares produced for the Coronation of Edward VIII, no. 17. The first vase was presented to H.M. Queen Mary.
