the rectangular box with flush-fitting cover, decorated with autumn flowers and kiku-mon [chrysanthemum family crest of the Imperial household] in gold takamaki-e with mother-of-pearl inlaid details, the interior of nashiji, applied with silver rim and fittings for a silk cord, the cover of the fitted wood box with inscription by Tomioka Hyakuren (Tessai) (1836–1924)

In the latter of his life, Tomioka Tessai was asked to write commemorations (san) as he was highly-recognised as a literati (bunjin).
