Description

of elongated octagonal form with molded borders, the hinged lid embossed and chased in high and low relief with Ariadne carried by a group of revelers towards Bacchus surrounded by numerous nude and semi-clad followers and satyrs blowing horns in a landscape with a boy and goat in right foreground and a pair of cherubs in a tree on the left, buildings in the distance, the sides embossed with friezes of playful Bacchic putti with goats, the corners with satyr masks in cartouches, maker’s mark only WR conjoined script below crown in shaped shield
