Robert Frank arrived in New York in February 1947, and shortly thereafter began working as an assistant photographer at Harper's Bazaar. While he worked there less than a year, he would continue to freelance for the magazine through the 1950s and early 1960s. It was during this time that he met fellow photographers Louis Faurer, Elliott Erwitt, Sid Grossman, and Bill Brandt, as well as legendary art director Alexey Brodovitch.
