Alperen Şengün paced the Rockets with 39 points, 11 rebounds, and 7 assists, dominating the game with his crafty scoring and giving the Thunder defense fits all night. On the defensive end, he registered 2 steals and 1 block. In the league’s much-anticipated return to NBC, the Thunder edged out Houston 125–124 in a double-overtime thriller. Şengün also made history, becoming the first player in NBA history to record at least 35 points, 10 rebounds, 5 assists, and 5 three-pointers in a season opener.

The Turkish phenom, Şengün, has gained the honorable nickname, 'Baby Jokic.' He has represented the Turkish national team since playing for their U-16 team in 2018 where they won a bronze medal at the FIBA Europe U-16 Championship. He also led the Turkey U-18 team to a silver medal at the FIBA Europe U-18 Championship and played for professional teams in Turkey before being drafted by the Rockets in 2021.


Coming off his first All-Star season, Şengün is set to serve as the Rockets’ anchor in the paint, joining a roster that now includes future Hall of Famer Kevin Durant. Expectations are sky high for this young team.
