Anne W. Tucker, George Krause, A Retrospective (Houston, 1991), p. i

In 1991, Anne W. Tucker, founding curator of photography at The Museum of Fine Arts, Houston, organized George Krause, A Retrospective, a major mid-career retrospective for the photographer.  In the accompanying monograph, Tucker writes, "Krause manages to say something about the reality of being human. And by saying that something, we are able to feel a little more aware of our own humanity and the humanity of others, although we may not care to be so brutally enlightened. Krause does not try to soften the blow when the reality impacts. Rather he implodes it with a sort of fantastic wryness, catching images just as the elusive junction of what is real and what isn't." (p. 3)

This photograph comes originally from the collection of Joan Morgenstern, The Museum of Fine Arts, Houston, Trustee and founding president of The MFAH Photo Forum. Morgenstern has donated more than 1,000 photographs to the museum, primarily focused on early and underrepresented midcareer artists.
