Description

of stepped form with concave sides and semi-circular corners, with eight conical appendages at the angles and on eight circular baluster feet, the top painted with Berenesque decoration in blue and purple, the corners painted with a ponticello in Chinese stylerocky islands, birds, palms and pagodas in blue, purple and yellow, the top edge with eight holes, probably for the insertion of a small balustrade or additional decoration


8,5 cm, 3 ⅜ in. high, 62,5 cm, 24 ⅝ in. wide, 52,5 cm, 20 ¾ in. deep

A similar shaped centrepiece is in the Museo Civico at Nove, but painted with flowers and signed at the centre of the top: "Dalla Fabbrica di Gio Botta Antonibon / Nelle Nove di Vicenza / Anno 1755". A further example of the same form, but painted a ponticello in Chinese style, was sold by Christie's, London, 22 April 2008, lot 107.
