This distinctive piece combines several unusual elements of design, including the foliate pierced pediment and the arrangement of drawers. The astragal panels are similar to those on a bookcase by Ince and Mayhew, illustrated in Christopher Gilbert, Pictorial Dictionary of Marked London Furniture 1700-1840, Leeds, 1996, p. 270.
