‘PRINCE OF WALES YACHT CLUB.
‘The Challenge Cup of this club was sailed for yesterday in miserable weather, for rain descended the better part of the time the racing was going on, and the company on board the steamer Queen of the Thames was comparatively small. The conditions of the prize were that it should be won two years in succession by the same Owner and yacht before becoming any one’s actual property. The following started;- Zephyr, 10 tons, A.J. and F.C. Little; Surga, 14 tones, R.J. Lambert; Dudu, 15 tons, J.A. Sparvel Bayly; Aveyron, 15 tons, E. Packard; Vivien, 7 tons, H.A. Leveret. The times of the two leading yachts at finishing were:-
Aveyron … … … … 8H 33M 0S
Zephyr … … … … 8H 45M 40S
‘Deducting the time allowance of 7 ½ min. the Aveyron won the prize by 5mins. 10Sec., and as it is her second victory she takes the challenge cup.’ (Shipping and Mercantile Gazette, London, Friday, 2 July 1875, p. 6c)
