Produced for a very brief period of time between 1962 and 1963, Omega produced reference 2998-6 which was characterised by the applied logo, a low SWISS MADE signature on the dial and an A1.24 winding crown. Traditionally, this reference also features short hours alpha hands, but in the present lot they were replaced and upgraded with C1 baton hands.
The watch was acquired by Ernest Roland Clark, Warrant Officer of the Royal Air Force, during his service in Singapore in a gold shop in Jalan Kayu near the Seletar RAF base. The watch became crucial during his missions and it was indeed worn during a rescue operation in the jungle of Borneo in the midst of the Indonesia-Malaysia confrontation, for which he received a medal of bravery for services in the Malay peninsula.
