A vari-colour gold single cased verge watch with a gilt-metal cast chatelaine

Circa 1780


Movement: gilded full plate, verge escapement, steel three-arm balance, decoratively pierced and engraved balance bridge, silver regulation plate, baluster pillars, fusee and chain, signed and numbered Boisson, Paris, No. 6451

Dial: white enamel, Roman numerals, outer Arabic minute ring, filigree hands

• Case: pink gold, the back chased and engraved in vari-colour gold with a putto and mandolin among flowers and foliage, the bezel with vari-colour garlands of flowers

Chatelaine: gilt-metal, the panels each centred with an urn and surrounded by flowers and foliage, four pendant chains terminating with two miniature bird cages, a magnifying glass and a caddy
