Collection of Helena Woolworth McCann (1878-1938)
Gift of the Winfield Foundation, 1955
A plate from this service, is illustrated in John Goldsmith Phillips, China-Trade Porcelain: An Account of Its Historical Background, Manufacture, and Decoration and a Study of the Helena Woolworth McCann Collection, Cambridge, 1956, pl. 41. The author dates this service to 1760-70, however as illustrated by David Sanctuary Howard, Chinese Armorial Porcelain, Vol. I, London, 1974, pp. 306-310, services with blue enameled floral sprigs at the border are more likely to have been made circa 1740.
