Menachem Mendel Schneerson (1902-1994), known at the Lubavitvher Rebbe, was one of the most influential Jewish leaders of recent times. His Chabad Lubavitch organisation pioneered kiruv (Jewish outreach) and he was a major thinker and scholar. Many of his followers believe him to be the Messiah.
