Despite the turmoil that came about with the rise of the Quartz Crisis, Patek Philippe were one of the few Swiss watchmakers that remained faithful to the concept of mechanical horology. The calibre 240Q, which sits at the heart of the 3940, was a revolutionary movement by Patek Philippe that featured a perpetual calendar coming in at a thickness of just 8.5 mm thanks to its new micro-rotor architecture. At the present, both the movement and reference has been hailed for its historical significance by Patek Philippe collectors.

This present example belongs to the earlier segment of the second series, with non-cross hair 3 o'clock sub-dial. With the current focus on neo-vintage classics like this one, the reference 3940 will surely be a must-have piece for decades to come within the zeitgeist of Patek Philippe.
