The Rolex GMT-Master, the brand’s legendary dual-time model, is most commonly found in stainless steel cases. Early references such as 6542 and 1675 were occasionally produced in precious metals. But it wasn’t until 1979, with the debut of reference 16758, that the GMT-Master was embellished with rubies, diamonds, and sapphires—introducing the four-letter gem-set designation (in that case “SARU”) that continues to define Rolex’s jewelled creations.

The watch at hand offers a striking twist on this tradition, distinguished by its bold monochromatic aesthetic. Bearing the suffix “SANR,” its bezel is set with black sapphires (Sapphire Noir) and diamonds, transforming the watch’s character entirely. Instead of the familiar colourful bezels, this version presents a purely black and white palette, delivering both dramatic visual impact and exceptional legibility.
