The Tank Chinoise was Louis Cartier’s love letter to the East. An avid enthusiast and collector of Eastern art, Louis Cartier, the brainchild behind the original Cartier Tank, designed the Chinoise in 1922 to evoke the portico of East Asian temples and other Eastern architecture and signified the brand’s appreciation for Eastern culture and made the Tank Chinoise a historically significant chapter in Cartier’s deep horological narrative.
The present example was part of the coveted ‘Collection Privé Cartier Paris’ that ran from 1998 to 2008. The collection celebrated the maison’s rich history through the revitalization of iconic Cartier models from the 20th century. Coming at a slightly larger case size, this rendition further highlights the distinctive design that captivated the hearts of many during the roaring 20s. To crown it all, the present piece is cased in platinum, making this present example a rare piece among the most desirable collection from the French maison in recent history.
