The defining signal caller of his generation, Patrick Mahomes has done more before leaving his 20s than many all-time greats have done across their careers.
The excitable and dynamic Mahomes has been making highlight throws his entire career whether through feats of incredible downfield arm strength, shifty out-of-the-pocket roll outs, or even with some jaw-dropping no-look tosses. The architect of a modern dynasty, he is a three-time Super Bowl Champion and Super Bowl MVP, a six-time Pro Bowler, has been named MVP twice, and is not slowing down.
The card commemorates Patrick’s rookie season with the Chiefs, where he started out behind veteran quarterback Alex Smith. The season spent as a backup paid off for Mahomes a year later when, in arguably the most impressive coming out party an athlete has ever had, he put up nearly 5,100 yards and 50 touchdowns while taking home his first MVP, Pro Bowl, 1st Team All-Pro, and Offensive Player of the Year honors.
National Treasures has risen to the height of the hobby since its introduction by Donruss/Playoff in 2006 and has continued to be a fan favorite since Panini purchased Donruss/Playoff in 2009. The brand consistently produces some of the most valuable sports cards on an annual basis; most notably of each year's top performing rookies across several sports. In the Summer of 2021 PWCC Marketplace, now known as Fanatics Collect, sold the NFL Shield rookie patch autograph of Mahomes for a record-breaking $4.3 million dollars via a private deal. At the time of this catalog entry, it still stands as the highest valued football card of all-time and ninth highest ever sports card of all-time. This card, the 1-of-1 player-worn glove NFL Shield rookie patch autograph, represents the near-apex of an athlete’s rookie year checklist. Featuring a cut out of an NFL Shield, the card also includes an on-card autograph by Mahomes and is stamped with a script “One of One” to indicate its singular print run.
The BGS certificate number for this card is: 0013329824. This card has been authenticated and deemed to be in Mint condition, receiving a grade of 9 from Beckett Grading Services (BGS). The autograph was graded and received a 10 from BGS.
Going Deeper - Patrick Mahomes
Slinging the Torch
Equal parts mad scientist and field general, Patrick Mahomes has taken the torch from the prior generation of signal callers to become the most feared man in football. After years of dominance from the likes of Brady, Brees, and Manning, he has become the face of the sport thanks to his dazzling play style and consistent brilliance in the biggest moments.
The parallels and comparisons to Brady, while lofty and difficult for anyone to live up to, have been eerily apt. Like Tom, Patrick spent his first season almost exclusively on the bench as a backup quarterback. Like Tom, he has maintained a stranglehold on the AFC in spite of a talented group of rivals. And Like Tom, he has compiled a Hall of Fame resume in advance of his 30th birthday.
2024 saw records tumble for the great signal caller. On September 5, 2024 as part of the NFL Kickoff Game against the Baltimore Ravens, Mahomes passed Chiefs’ legend and NFL Hall of Fame inductee, Len Dawson, in all-time franchise passing yards. Just a few weeks later Mahomes won his 77th regular season start, becoming the winningest quarterback in NFL history through his first 100 starts. Midway through the season, he became the fastest quarterback to reach 30,000 passing yards, beating out Matthew Stafford who had accomplished the feat in 109 games: Mahomes did it in 103. In the second to last game of the regular season, Mahomes led the Chiefs to a 29-10 win over the Pittsburgh Steelers, securing the top seed in the AFC for yet another year while also setting a franchise record for regular season wins in a single season. With a 32-29 victory in the AFC Championship game against the Buffalo Bills, Mahomes moved into second place for playoff wins as a quarterback, behind only Tom Brady. Despite falling to the Philadelphia Eagles in the Super Bowl, this marked Mahomes’ fifth trip to the big game, and almost certainly not his last.
Mahomes, a two-time MVP and six-time Pro Bowler, is the first quarterback since Brady debuted to lead three successful Super Bowl campaigns, establishing his Chiefs as the next great NFL dynasty. Additionally, Patrick has now extended the Chiefs’ reign over the AFC West division to nine consecutive years, second only to Brady’s eleven straight division titles with New England in the AFC East.
Sharing two legendary postseason battles with Brady including the instant classic 2018 AFC Championship game and Super Bowl LV, Mahomes has faced TB12 and hardly blinked. Though Tom came away with the Lombardi in that Super Bowl, easily the most memorable play of the night belonged to Patrick on an otherworldly desperation heave made while fully sideways inches above the ground.
Now with a third ring before his 30th birthday, Mahomes has Brady’s status as the greatest quarterback to ever play firmly in his sights.
