circa 2nd Century A.D.


carved with Silenos moving to left, holding a staff in his right hand, and carrying a wineskin over his left shoulder, his hair crowned in a wreath of ivy leaves and berries; no restorations.

29 by 24 by 8 cm.

Nicos Dhikéos (1896-1987), Consul of Cyprus in Lyon, France, acquired in the 1960s (the style of the original custom-made wood base, now removed, suggests that the object was in private hands at least since the early 20th Century)
