2008
As a part of Nike’s 2008 1World campaign, Nike partnered with Questlove - drummer and co-founder of Philadelphia band the Roots - on a hyper limited Air Force 1 design. Questlove, alongside 17 other artists, including KAWS, Marok, and Busy P, were brought together to release specially designed takes on the famous Nike Air Force 1 silhouette.
As one of the most identifiable Air Force 1s from the campaign, the ‘Gold Toe’ is far more rare and sought after than the already highly limited Red Toe pairs. With release parties at three in-store locations in New York, Los Angeles, and Philadelphia, there were rumored to be a total 300 Questlove Air Force 1’s made available with just 25 of the ‘Gold Toe’ variants being given out to lucky winners where Questlove was present.
The pair itself is dressed in a contrasting palette of red leather and a unique green elephant print. The toe box on this rare pair is in gold whilst the midsole, lace lock, and side panels are in the shocking green elephant print. The Gold Tobox matches the gold Swoosh and heel tabs, as well as special gold laces. The rear panels are in red leather. Unique designs include an embossed Questlove silhouette on the lateral heels, the same silhouette on the tongue tags, and a graphic of him drumming on the insoles.
The box has been signed and inscribed by Questlove. These shoes are accompanied by a letter from James Spence Authentication in regards to the signatures.
