Introduced in the late 1980s, the Diabolo brought a more rounded and expressive silhouette to Cartier’s watchmaking, its cabochon-set crown and distinctive lugs giving the model an identity entirely its own.
The present reference 1400 0, dating to circa 1990, carries that character into a chronograph format. Executed in yellow gold, it combines the softer, more sculptural lines of the Diabolo with a dial of greater structure, where Roman numerals, subsidiary registers and date indication introduce a more technical register without disturbing the poise of the design.
