signed Man Ray, titled CADEAU, dated 1962 (1921) (on the handle) ; inscribed Sao Paulo 1965-66, ne touchez pas aux clous, (PAS A VENDRE) and variously inscribed (on the underside of the box); signed Man Ray, titled CADEAU and inscribed (TOP) (HAUT) (on the side of the box)

Iron: 7 by 4 by 4 ¼ in. (14.8 by 10.2 by 10.8 cm.)

Exhibition box: 4 ¼ by 9 ⅞ by 5 ½ in. (10.8 by 25.1 by 14 cm.)

Executed in 1962, this is one of a number of replicas made after the original object of 1921. 



Andrew Strauss and Timothy Baum of the Man Ray Expertise Committee have confirmed the authenticity of this work under reference 00432-O-2024 and that this work will be included in the Catalogue of Objects & Sculpture of Man Ray, currently in preparation.
