Christie's London, July 7, 1992 (as François-Gaspard-Balthazar Adam)

The pose of the present figure is reminiscent of the lithe and elegant late Baroque figures seen in Venetian sculpture of the 18th century. However, the sculptor of Apollo seems to have been exposed to the work of the Neoclassical masters in Rome, Antonio Canova and Bertel Thorvaldsen, in the treatment of the hair and style of the base incorporating the pedestal emblazoned with a lyre.
