Description
A Model of a F86 Sabre, USAF, FU-473
height 14 in.; width 50 in.; length 52 in.
35.5 cm; 127 cm; 132 cm
This model depicts a North American F-86 Sabre, one ofthe most significant fighter aircraft of the Korean War. Developed in 1949, the aircraft served in air forces across the globe until the Bolivian Air Force, the last to use the Sabre, retired the fighter in 1994, though the United States had retired the jet by the end of the 1950s. The F-86 notably set the official world speed record in 1948 when it reached a speed of 670.9 miles per hour.
Note: the registration number “FU-473”corresponds to a F-86D Sabre, AKA a “Sabre Dog.” This model is of a F-86 Sabre,
which is the basis for the F-86D, but materially different, particularly with reference to the nose of the aircraft.
