This is a rare painting of a nude model by Hunter and may date to 1930 when the artist attended a life class at the Glasgow Arts Club. Although oil paintings of nude figures are very scarce in the artist's oeuvre he made many pen and ink sketches of the subject, enlivened with bright crayon. The background of the present picture is evocative of the art of Matisse.
