This Russian film, co-written and directed by Andrei Tarkovsky, stars Donatas Banionis and Natalya Bondarchuk.
Based on Stanisław Lem’s 1961 novel, the story takes place aboard a space station orbiting the fictional planet Solaris, where a scientific mission has faltered as the remaining three crew members descend into emotional turmoil. A psychologist is dispatched to investigate, only to experience the same unsettling phenomena, confronting haunting memories and unresolved guilt. Solaris delves into themes of grief, memory and the boundaries of human understanding.
