Disney's fifth animated feature film Bambi was based on the book Bambi, A Life in the Woods, by Felix Salten. The film tells the story of a young deer, Bambi, growing up in the forest with his friends Thumper, Flower and Faline. Bambi's father is the Great Prince of the Forest, and protects the woodland creatures from hunters. Sweet Bambi will eventually take over this title and its responsibility. Disney changed the species of deer from a roe deer to a mule deer, as these are more common in America.
