Description

DR. STRANGELOVE OR: HOW I LEARNED TO STOP WORRYING AND LOVE THE BOMB. Tomi Ungerer for Columbia Pictures, 1964.

US Day-glo One Sheet poster, linen backed, unframed: 41 x 27 in. (104 x 69 cm).

The present lot is an example of the day-glo poster trend that exploded within film studios during the 1960s and 1970s. Day-glo posters promoted the studios' best films with striking day-designs and were printed in tiny quantities—meaning that very few survived. Two versions of this poster for Dr. Strangelove were printed—one with day-glo lettering and the other without. This version with the day-glo lettering is the rarer of the two.

This black comedy was directed by Stanley Kubrick, and stars Peter Sellers, who played three different characters, together with George C. Scott and Sterling Hayden.
