Description
CHAMPION, CHICAGO BULLS RED JACKET
Presented in this lot is a game-worn red Chicago Bulls warmup jacket used during the 1990-1991 or 1991-1992 season. The jacket was worn during a contest against the Miami Heat. While the available photographs are not dated to a specific game, multiple images confirm the matchup, including one identified as AP #965442387455 that captures Scottie Pippen posing alongside the Miami Heat mascot. Warmups from this era are among the most visually iconic elements of Bulls game presentation.
The jacket features the classic red Chicago Bulls design, highlighted by the team’s bull logo accented with an American flag on the right chest.
From 1990 through 1992, the Chicago Bulls evolved from a talented contender into a championship dynasty, and at the heart of that transformation was Scottie Pippen. While Michael Jordan remained the league’s most electrifying scorer, it was Pippen’s emergence as an elite two-way force—capable of guarding every position, initiating offense, and elevating the team’s defensive identity—that allowed the Bulls to finally break through at the highest level.
During the 1990–91 season, Pippen’s development into a true superstar gave head coach Phil Jackson the versatility required to fully implement the triangle offense. Pippen functioned as a point-forward within the system, facilitating ball movement, pushing the pace in transition, and anchoring Chicago’s aggressive perimeter defense. His length and defensive instincts were crucial in neutralizing opposing stars throughout the playoffs, particularly during the Eastern Conference Finals sweep of the Detroit Pistons that symbolically ended Detroit’s dominance and ushered in a new era in the NBA. Chicago went on to defeat the Los Angeles Lakers in five games to capture the franchise’s first championship.
By 1991–92, Pippen had firmly established himself as one of the most complete players in basketball. He earned First Team All-Defense honors and his first All-NBA selection while helping lead the Bulls to a franchise-record 67 wins. Beyond the box score, his ability to handle the ball, initiate offense, and defend elite wings and guards allowed the Bulls to play a uniquely fluid and switchable style. That versatility proved decisive in the Finals against the Portland Trail Blazers, where Chicago secured its second consecutive championship.
