Description

Joseph von Eichendorff

Autograph letter signed ("v Eichendorff"), to Karl Goedeke

apologising for the late reply to his letter of 27 September, which only reached him yesterday on account of his being on an extended work-related journey, stating that it would be a joy and an honour for him to have some of his lieder included in his collection, to which end, with pleasure, he gives his permission, so long as this accords with the legal niceties and his publisher Simion in Berlin does not object

...Es wird mir zur besonderen Ehre u. Freude gereichen, in der von Ihnen beabsichtigten Sammlung mehre Lieder von mir aufgenommen zu sehen...

1 page, 4to (26.3 x 21cm), integral blank, 'BATH' paper, red wax seal, with a 1-page manuscript note in the hand of Ernst Rudorff, Graudenz, 12 October 1843, small paper excision to upper right-hand corner of first leaf, not affecting text

Eichendorff's correspondent was the German literature historian Karl Goedeke (1814-1887), who published his study of German poets from 1813 to 1843 the year after the present letter (1844).
