The Tribeca Film Festival is a major cultural event highlighting the cinematic arts since its inception in 2002. It was founded by Robert De Niro, Jane Rosenthal, and Craig Hatkoff as a way to revive the economy and culture of Lower Manhattan following the 9/11 attacks. The festival celebrates creativity, storytelling, and independent cinema.

In 2011, IWC Schaffhausen was named the Official Time Partner of the Tribeca Film Festival and in 2016, unveiled the Portugieser IW5035-06 made to celebrate the 2016 Tribeca Film Festival. Crafted in a limited edition of fifty pieces, it features a substantial 44mm stainless steel case and is recognisable by its ardoise colored dial with burgundy subdials. While the slate gre dial is meant to evoke New York City streets, the crimson-hued subdials symbolize the movie industry’s iconic red carpets. The sapphire crystal display back prominently displays an 18-karat gold medallion engraved with the festival’s logo embedded on the rotor, powering the in house self winding calibre 52850, which boasts a 168 hour power reserve and a frequency of 28800 vph.

The collaboration between IWC and the Tribeca Film Festival celebrates artistic achievement, particularly in the field of film, and connects the world of luxury watchmaking with the creative arts. Made for the cinephiles of the watch collecting community, the present timepiece is presented in wonderful condition complete with original box and papers.
