The Omega Reference 2850SC Seamaster XVI is particularly notable for its association with the 1956 Melbourne Olympics. Omega was the official timekeeper for the 1956 Melbourne Olympics. This partnership with the Olympics provided Omega with a platform to showcase the precision of their timekeeping instruments solidifying their reputation as a leader in chronometry. Made to commemorate the 16th Olympic Games in Melbourne, Australia, the dial features applied gold Roman numerals XVI, and the case back is emblazoned with the Olympic Cross of Merit symbol.
There exists two versions of the 2850SC, one of which is our present example and the other which features the Olympic Cross of Merit on the dial in addition to the case back. Gifted to athletes, celebrities and executives at the games, very few examples of the 2850SC were ever produced, adding to its historic value and rarity.
